Christians...why would God create an "eternal covenant" with the Jews, and then change his mind?

I mean it just doesn't make any sense. It also says in the Bible that "if in the future a prophet should arise and lead you to a God or thing you have never heard of, you shall not follow him! You shall remove the evil from your midst's..."
