Is it wrong to clip your cats claws some?

This is a totally indoor cat. I'd never declaw but he seems to be getting his claws caught in a lot of things (especially a blanket that someone crocheted for me) and I wondered if you're maybe supposed to trim them some? None of my other cats ever had this problem. Thank you!
